The study consists of the implementation of the “entreprenant” status in Benin, which offers the ideal conditions to study the impact of different incentives to improve business formalization decisions, the legal environment in which small firms operate, and how these firms approach their interactions with public authorities. The study also aims to show the impact of firms’ and entrepreneurs’ characteristics on the determinants of formalization and whether specific incentives carry any tangible benefits for the firm and its growth.
