Training Department

Masters Program

Master in Public Economics and Applied Statistics

Goal

The program prepares students for careers in government and international development agencies. The program also prepares students for doctoral studies in the social sciences.

There will be a maximum of 25 students admitted each year starting in July 2006.The duration of the program is two years and the degree will be jointly awarded by the University of Abomey-Calavi and the Institute for Empirical Research in Political Economy (IERPE).

Curriculum

The core training will consist of three parts:

  1. Standard graduate training in economics: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, econometrics and program evaluation.
  2. Real analysis, probability and statistics, and experimental methods.
  3. African History, Sociology and politics.

Students will also take part in optional seminars in development economics, public health policies, public education policies, rural and urban development, democratic governance, Advanced Game Theory and Advanced Econometrics.

Faculty

Director: Leonard Wantchekon

More than thirty internationally renowned professors who are on the faculty of leading universities such as Cornell, Johns Hopkins, New York University in USA, Laval University and University of Montreal in Canada, University of Toulouse and DIAL-Paris in France. There are also professors from West African Universities such as University of Abomey-Calavi (Benin), University of Lome (Togo) and University of Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso).
